Dreams to Dreams

I want to thank all the artists that did a piece for the Dreams to Dreams show. The range of styles was amazing. The opening reception was a big success with over 450+ people coming through to see the show. The positive response to the DCTO form by the Japanese community showed me that I had accomplished my goal, which was to take the traditional Daru

ma shape and respectfully add a modern flare.

BIG thanks to JANM for welcoming the Dreams to Dreams idea with open hearts.

Thanks to Maria Kwong and all the staff volunteers that worked tirelessly to put the displays together.

Also big shouts to Daruma Asset Management, Inc. which sponsored the show.

Here are some pix of the pieces:

Dreams to Dreams: DCTO Custom Show 2008.

Dacosta Bayley a.k.a CHOCOLATE SOOP and the Japanese American National Museum have assembled the first custom toy show held in a museum. 45+ artists have customized his DCTO (Dreams Come True Object) Jibun Project, a futuristic version of the traditional Daruma toy. The theme of the show is "Dreams to Dreams" and is based on the poem of the same title which speaks to childhood dreams, possibilities and looking to the future.

Opening reception will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2008

The finished art pieces will be on display at the Japanese American National Museum from December 1, 2008 through January 4, 2009. Pieces will be available for sale through the Museum Store.

The show will lead up to Oshogatsu weekend (a significant celebration in Los Angeles’s Little Tokyo area). there will be educational and entertaining programs that tell the significance of Daruma and other cultural icons for the New Year.

Sponsored in part by: Daruma Asset Management, Inc.

Back again with a long over due post...

It's been a minute since my last project update. I think their will be a couple of posts the weekend to catch you up.

"Don't eat yellow snow" they say...

The truth about those mysterious little yellow stains in the snowbanks has finally been uncovered. Very soon you’ll be able to get your hands on the top secret report hidden from the general public by a shadow organization that would like nothing more than to keep us in the dark on such matters. Well NO MORE I say!!! The truth is out there… and it’s yellow…

Back soon true believers

TR2N!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the biggest influences of my design style was TRON.

The fact that they have final shown the teaser for the sequel makes me tingle all over ;)

You know I'm going to have to do some character and vehicle design concepts inspired by the world.

Enjoy

Rogers announces iPhone 3G packages

Is there no end to the money hungry machine that is Rogers?

There isn't much I can say that others have not expressed about the iPhone packages from Rogers that were announced last night. I love my apple products and have been waiting for the iPhone to officially come to Canada, but with the IMO offensive package pricing presented to us by Rogers, I will have to say sorry.  The only bright light is that it doesn't appear that they have an exclusive deal to carry the iPhone, so this could give others the chance to bring better pricing to the Canadian people. Lets cross our fingers shall we. (Just don't hold your breath)

Check out the response from readers and add your 2 cents.

Plushform Show

The Wee Ninja by Shawnimals form has been taken to the next level with the Plushform. We got little taste at NYCC back in April, but now they are ready to drop. On June 27th, Shawnimals and Chicago based gallery Rotofugi are putting on a custom exhibit and launch party. With a roster rammed with talent, this show will no doubt be a must see event.

I'm honoured to be on the list of artists invited to contribute. I only wish I could be there in person to join in the festivities.

I will admit I was a plush virgin this project. I kicked around a lot of ideas.

Here is a little peak what I came up with...

You get check all the details on the Plushform on the site.
